Summer Reading for English Language Arts

for Incoming 8th Grade Students (2026)

Dear Incoming 8th Grade Students,

Heritage Middle School is happy to share with you an exciting list of books for this year’s summer reading assignment. We want you to find something you will love, so we are offering a diverse selection, with different topics and sub-genres of fiction.

You are expected to read TWO full-length books that are appropriate for your reading level. You MUST choose at least ONE book from our list of recommended fiction. The other is a free choice (any genre, including non-fiction), which means you can choose from our list or not. In September, be prepared to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of your books through a graded project based on your book.  A complete list of our recommended books is available on Destiny Discover through the Heritage Media Center Folder in Classlink or on the Heritage Middle School website.

We look forward to discussing your summer reads in the fall.

Have a great break,

Your 8th Grade ELA Teachers
